Foundations
In 1958, Richard “Dick” Fisher unveiled Boston Whaler’s first product, the 13’ Whaler, at the New York Boat Show. At the peak of the Vietnam War in the early 1960s, Boston Whaler received government contracts for military workboats as commercial demand continued to climb. By 1964, they were a customer favorite across the continental United States.
Awards
Over the decades, Boston Whaler has grown both in size and demand, and they’ve maintained a standard of excellence all the while. In 2002, the company earned the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Award, and has received it every year since. They’ve also been awarded a number of Innovation Awards, and in 2014 their 420 Outage model was awarded Boat of the Year by Boating magazine.
Unsinkable Legacy
Boston Whaler’s reputation is buoyed by their knack for making unsinkable boats. In 1961, founder Fisher was pictured sitting in one of his boats while it was being cut in half by a saw, still afloat. In 2007, they revamped their reputation by firing multiple 6.26mm rounds from an M60 machine gun at the 19’ Guardian. Despite the holes, it refused to sink!
